Studies show that, Obstructive Sleep Apnea has a risk to cause hypoxia to patients when they are asleep. And the wrong treatment could bring heavy consequence to the patients. Stroke, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases are comorbidities of OSA and should be paid attention by the patients themselves and professional authorities.

Self-assessment I

How likely are you to doze off or fall asleep in the following situations, in contrast to feeling just tired? This refers to your usual way of life in recent times. Even if you have not done some of these things recently try to work out how they would have affected you. Use the following scale to choose the most appropriate number for each situation:

0 - No chance of dozing                        1 - Slight chance of dozing

2 - Moderate chance of dozing              3 - High chance of dozing

Results of self-assessment:

  • 0-6 points: you have enough sleep
  • 7-8 points: you have a sleep problem, drowsiness during the day
  • Above 9 points: you are very drowsy during the day, please contact your doctor

Self-assessment II

The questionnaire below is a further test of the possibility of having OSA. It would be better to get a bed partner if you have to complete some of the questions as they refer to symptoms that occur during your sleep.

Result of self-assessment:

  • 0 point: low risk on OSA
  • 1-3 points: moderate risk on OSA, please be advised by your physicians
  • 4-7 points: high potential on OSA, please contact your physician immediately.

These two tests are very general in nature and do not replace information or advice from a Healthcare Professional. If you suspect that you have OSA, please contact your physician.
